There is a growing credibility crisis in professional services. Clients are starting to suspect—correctly—that much of the work they're paying for is AI-generated. The consultants who try to hide this will eventually be caught. The ones who disclose it proactively will build deeper trust.

This site uses AI extensively. Every blog post is drafted with AI assistance. The code was generated using vibe coding tools. Research is accelerated by AI-powered search. This disclosure is not a weakness—it is a competitive advantage.

The Trust Equation

Trust in professional relationships depends on three factors: competence, reliability, and transparency. AI amplifies the first two—it makes you more competent and more reliable. But if you hide its role, you undermine the third.

When a client discovers that you used AI without disclosing it, the reaction is not "how efficient." It's "what else are they not telling me?" The perceived deception damages trust far more than the AI usage itself ever could.

The Legal Reality

The EU AI Act's transparency obligations are scheduled to apply from August 2026. Under Article 50:

  • AI-generated content must be marked as such in a machine-readable format
  • Deepfakes (AI-generated or manipulated audio/video) must be disclosed
  • AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest must be disclosed—unless it has undergone human review and a human assumes editorial responsibility

That last clause is the most relevant for consultants and content creators. If you use AI to draft content but you review, edit, and take editorial responsibility for the final output, the disclosure obligation is modified. But the spirit of the regulation is clear: transparency about AI involvement is becoming a legal expectation, not just an ethical one.

The Practical Disclosure Framework

Here is how to implement transparency without making every piece of content feel like a legal disclaimer:

Website Level

Add a clear statement in your footer, about page, or a dedicated transparency page: "This site uses AI tools including Gemini, Antigravity, and Veo for content creation, code generation, and visual production. All content is reviewed and edited by Simon Bullows, who takes full editorial responsibility."

Content Level

For blog posts and articles, include a brief note in the author bio or metadata indicating AI assistance in drafting.

Client Level

In your proposals and contracts, state which AI tools you use and how they enhance your service delivery. Frame it as a capability multiplier, not a shortcut.

Social Media Level

When sharing AI-generated visuals or AI-assisted content, a simple disclosure tag or caption note is sufficient.

The Competitive Advantage

Transparency about AI usage positions you as:

  1. Technically competent (you know how to use cutting-edge tools effectively)
  2. Honest (you don't hide your methods)
  3. Forward-thinking (you're ahead of the regulatory curve)
  4. Confident in your value (your expertise is in the direction and judgment, not in the manual labour of typing)

The consultant who says "I use AI to research, draft, and generate assets, and I apply my professional judgment to ensure quality" is more credible than the one who pretends every word was handwritten at midnight.
